What a fantastic way to bring the 2026 Natal Inland Novice Singles Championship to a close! 🎉
Maritzburg Bowling Club sponsored and hosted a wonderful Novice Singles tournament, culminating in a brilliant Finals Day today, Sunday 16 August.
As we all know, in bowls it ultimately comes down to making that final — and then producing your very best when the trophy is on the line! 🥇
A huge congratulations from the Natal Inland Executive to all 51 Novices who took to the greens and competed with such enthusiasm and determination. 👏👏
Special congratulations to everyone who progressed through the Sectional Play, Quarter Finals and Semi Finals. Reaching those stages is a fantastic achievement!

Danielle produced a superb performance to overcome a spirited Ursula Nortje of Howick BC, claiming the title of 2026 NIBA Women's Novice Champion.

JP Geldenhuys – Collegians BC 🎉
In the Men's Final, Quinton Heyns of Howick BC gave it everything in a spirited contest, but it was JP who emerged victorious to be crowned the 2026 NIBA Men's Novice Champion.
🏆 A SPECIAL PRIZE-GIVING MOMENT
One of the day's most memorable moments came at Prize Giving when 2025 Men's Novice Champion Liam Janse van Rensburg, who was home on holiday from Dubai, had the honour of presenting the Men's Champion trophy to JP.
A wonderful moment of passing the baton from one Novice Champion to the next. 🇿🇦🏆
And finally, a massive THANK YOU to all the spectators who turned out in their droves to support our Novices. Your encouragement and enthusiasm created a fantastic atmosphere and showed just how much our bowling fraternity values the next generation of players. 👏

Yesterday saw two fantastic Men's games complete the Quarter Final line-up:
🎯 Dieter Schallen (Howick BC) defeated Lyle Evans (Maritzburg West BC) 21–16.
🎯 Quinton Heyns (Howick BC) overcame a spirited Brandon Nel 21–19, setting up an all-Howick Quarter Final! 💚
The Men's and Women's Quarter Finals get underway at 8.30am today, with 7 fantastic games on display this morning.
⭐ Ursula Nortje of Howick BC is the only player receiving a bye into the next round.
It promises to be a super day of bowls, with our Novices battling it out for Natal Inland glory! 🏆

🏆 Novices Shine Bright at Maritzburg Bowling Club 🏆
Maritzburg Bowling Club played host to the sectional rounds of the 2026 Natal Inland Bowling Association Men's and Women's Novice Singles Championships this past weekend.
A magnificent mid-winter's day provided the perfect backdrop as 51 eager Novices took to the greens, all determined to keep their championship dreams alive.
As is often the case in bowls, the tournament produced its fair share of surprises. Several fancied contenders fell by the wayside as the Novices showcased their talent, determination, and competitive spirit. The standard of bowls on display was exceptional, proving that the future of Natal Inland bowls is in very capable hands.
With sectional play now complete, attention turns to the playoff rounds, which will once again be hosted by Maritzburg Bowling Club next weekend. Spectators can expect more thrilling encounters and high-quality bowls as the remaining players battle for provincial glory.
Two Men's Round of 16 matches will be contested at 1:30pm on Saturday, 15 August, with the remainder of the tournament taking place on Sunday, 16 August.
We look forward to another fantastic weekend of competition as we crown the 2026 Natal Inland Men's and Women's Novice Singles Champions.
