The BSA Men’s Nationals in Pretoria produced some magnificent bowls with quality games on display throughout the opening rounds.

The Natal Inland men rose to the occasion with some superb sectional performances. A number of players cruised through with dominant displays, while others had to dig incredibly deep after early setbacks to fight back and claim their sections.

Congratulations to the following NIBA players who emerged as sectional winners in the Men’s Open Singles:

🏆 Quinton Heyns (Howick)
🏆 Rob Andrew (Howick)
🏆 Brad Robinson (Lynwood)
🏆 Sid Siebert (Collegians)

The Open Singles players also had to contest their first playoff matches this afternoon, with Brad Robinson, Rob Andrew and Sid Siebert all progressing to the next round with excellent victories.

Quinton Heyns bowed out after a tough encounter against the legendary Gerry Baker.

In the Men’s Veteran Singles, Natal Inland also celebrated sectional success through:

🏆 Jack Allan (Howick)
🏆 Hennie Heyns (Howick)

The next playoff rounds for both the Open and Veteran Singles will take place on Thursday 21 May at 8:30am.

Keep flying the Natal Inland flag high, gents — we are right behind you all!

Good luck as well for the Fours competition which gets underway tomorrow. 💪🎳

🏆🎳 Natal Inland Men’s & Women’s Veteran Trips Finals 🎳🏆

What a superb finals day hosted by the ever-welcoming PMB Collegians Bowling Club. Brilliant winter sunshine, top-class hospitality and bowls of the highest calibre made for a memorable occasion.

The Women’s Final delivered pure drama right down to the wire. Seasoned campaigner Zelda Siebert skipped her Collegians Bowling Club side alongside the talented Tracey Shead and brand new bowler Browyn Gebers in a thrilling encounter against the Maritzburg Bowling Club trio of Janet Bevis, Patty Forbes-Milne and Annanda Mustard.

The Maritzburg ladies came out firing and opened up a commanding 7-shot lead, but Zelda and her team showed incredible grit and determination to claw their way back into the match. In a nail-biting finish, the game went right down to the final end where the Collegians gals held their nerve to pull through victorious.

The Men’s Final saw the formidable Howick Bowling Club combination skipped by Rusty Ikin prove too hot to handle on the day. Backed by solid front rankers Mike Fairhurst and Edwin Hohls, the Howick trio produced quality bowls throughout the match.

Keith Parsons and John Pachonick suffered a major setback in the 5th end when second Robin Breeds unfortunately tore his bicep muscle and had to be replaced by a substitute off the bank. Rusty and his team capitalised on the disruption and closed the game out with two ends to spare.

The standard of bowls displayed throughout the tournament was absolutely superb and if this weekend is anything to go by, we are in for a crackerjack winter bowling season ahead! 🔥

A massive thank you once again to Club President Janine De Waal and her hardworking team for hosting such an awesome tournament. 👏👏
