The 2026 Natal Inland Open Masters got underway in style today at Maritzburg West Bowling Club, proudly hosted and sponsored by the club itself.

Our top 12 Men and top 12 Women descended on Maritzburg West this morning, ready to embrace the individual challenge and begin their quest to be crowned the 2026 Open Masters Champion.

The day opened with a special surprise for all the players, as each competitor received personalised bowl stickers featuring their names. This unique touch immediately added something extra to the occasion, creating an even more special atmosphere and giving the event that true Masters feel.

As the opening day unfolded, some early front-runners began to emerge in the race for sectional honours. Defending 2025 champions Brad Robinson and Zelda Siebert showed exactly why they arrived as favourites, both remaining unbeaten after Day 1’s three matches.

Also maintaining perfect records are Francesca Baleri, Sean Lightfoot and Sid Siebert, setting up what promises to be a thrilling finish.

However, with two crucial matches still to be played tomorrow morning, the competition remains wide open and there could still be a few surprises before the finalists are confirmed.

Play resumes tomorrow at Maritzburg West Bowling Club at 8:30am.

Who will rise to the challenge and book their place in the finals? Stay tuned!

🏆2026 NIBA Men's & Women's Veteran Singles Finals 🏆

Held at Collegians Bowling Club, Finals Day was exceptionally well supported and spectators were treated to some breathtaking bowls throughout the day.

The two Men's Semi-Finals delivered absolute classics. Gerry Janse van Rensburg produced a superb performance to defeat the highly fancied Frank Lategan, while in the other semi-final Sid Price overcame tournament dark horse George Du Tertre, who was certainly one of the standout discoveries of the competition.

The final between Gerry and Sid was a magnificent contest, with the lead changing hands regularly and both players producing bowls of the highest standard. In the end, Sid "Slingshot" Price from Howick Bowling Club emerged victorious to become our 2026 Veteran Singles Champion.

Sid's "Slingshot" nickname comes from his use of an extended bowling arm, a technique that has revolutionised his game and become part of his trademark style.

Natal Inland Bowling District would like to extend sincere thanks to Collegians Bowling Club for their outstanding hosting of the event. Special thanks also go to Kyle Stephens and Caleb Janse van Rensburg for their excellent live streaming coverage, allowing even more supporters to enjoy the action.

Congratulations to all players who participated in a memorable championship event! 👏
