🏆🔥 2026 NIBA MEN’S & WOMEN’S VETERAN PAIRS 🔥🏆
What a superb two days of bowls it has been at Maritzburg West Bowling Club, with our NIBA Veterans showing that experience, skill and a competitive spirit certainly don’t fade with age! 😎🎯
There was some seriously impressive bowling on display throughout the competition, with close games, plenty of pressure bowls and, of course, a few moments of “Vat Gras!” 😂
👑 WOMEN’S FINAL
The Women’s Final saw the defending champions, Rene Myklebust & Vanessa Francis of Maritzburg West BC, take on Wilma Halvorsen and her Novice partner Bronwyn Gebers of Collegians BC.
Wilma and Bronwyn certainly weren’t there just to make up the numbers, but Rene & Vanessa showed exactly why they arrived as the defending champions.
🎯 Rene & Vanessa successfully defended their title in fine style!
Back-to-back champions — a fantastic achievement! 🏆👏
🔥 MEN’S FINAL
And then came the Men’s Final…
The Howick partnership of Clark Logan & Mark Taylor, who lifted the title two years ago, went into the final as the odds-on favourites.
But bowls has a funny way of ignoring the form book! 😜
Standing in their way were Les Whiteman and his birthday-boy lead, Jim Gillespie, from Maritzburg West BC.
And boy, were Les & Jim RED HOT! 🔥🔥🔥
What followed was a fiercely contested final, with both teams producing some quality bowls under pressure.
But it was Les & Jim who held their nerve and their line to claim the 2026 NIBA Men’s Veteran Pairs title! 🏆🎉
🎂 What a way for Jim to celebrate his birthday — a Veteran Pairs championship! 🥳👏

A huge thank you to Maritzburg West Bowling Club and their members for hosting the competition and providing such a wonderful venue for two days of top-class Veterans bowls.
And a special thank you to John Geekie for his excellent umpiring service throughout the event. 👏
